Weekly Update Oct. 21st-25th

Hello room #1 parents, I hope you've had a good weekend.

As we prepare for the week of Halloween, here's a look back at the past week:

Science: In Science we germinated beans and drew diagrams of the bean seed and its parts.
Social: We have begun to research the animals and places in each of Alberta's natural regions, starting with the Rocky Mountain region.
Arts: Pictured below is the class creating rocky mountain landscapes using a technique called needle felting.
Math: Introduced subtraction on the number line this week by having students calculate how far apart two Halloween themed characters were.

This week:
-This week we are focussing on the the text features in non-fiction (captions, diagrams and fun-facts.)
-Students will use these features while creating posters about Alberta's regions
-In Science students will be researching individual plants and creating diagrams of them
-Thursday is Halloween. The morning will be business as usual, but in the afternoon the whole school will participate in Halloween themed learning activities culminating in a costume parade.

Have a great week.
Mr. Ursenbach

Oct. 21-25, 2019

Hello Parents!

We had a great week of learning:
- In math we are concentrating on using the number line model to add up to three by three digit numbers.
-In Science, we had the opportunity to study flower bulbs and then plant them in our brand new garden planters (pictured below)
-In Social Studies, we are beginning to study the geographic regions of Alberta
-In reading/ writing the students have been practicing learning new decoding strategies, such as stretching out the word or clapping out the syllables

Coming Week:
-Thursday night is our parent math night! Come learn about the way math is being taught in the classrooms at Belfast!
-Tuesday morning, around 8:40AM we will be doing some felting art. This is an amazing opportunity for the students to experience a unique art form. I am currently looking for 3 volunteers to help out for the first part of the morning (until around 10:00)
-In Social we will be focussing on an incredible region of Alberta: the Rocky Mountains!

if you have any questions, Just shoot me an email!
Have a good week-
